You don’t need to be a design expert to create a pretty party table; using a few simple design principles, any host can compose a spread worthy of instagramming. The trend of this party season, dessert tables are always a hit. With a little forethought your dessert table spread will look magazine ready.
Its often helpful to sketch your layout, and most stylists use one of three symmetrical options; Single Triangle, Inverted Traingle, or Multitriangle. For the Single Triangle option, create a centre focus higher than the other pieces on the table. Work outward so that the remaining pieces descend from the centre with shorter items at the ends of the table. An Inverted Triangle Option uses two focal points at either side of the centre. Working inwards, descend in height from those focal points to the centre table item. Or, if you’d prefer the Multiple Triangle Option, follow the single triangle option and duplicate to make smaller triangles. This option allows several beautiful items to be showcased.
Make a list of the desserts you want on the table. Plan to include one or two designer desserts (such as a cake, cupcakes or cookies), and fill the rest of the table with more cost effective plates. Two or three homemade or supermarket bought single serve desserts, and two to three different lollies will complete your perfect dessert spread. Ideally, select lollies that complement the theme colours. Ideas for single serve desserts include jelly cups, fruit salad cups, macaroons, tarts, meringues or fairy floss sticks. Treats such as cake pops, lollypops, pretzel rods, rock candy and marshmallow pops can also add height to amplify the visual appeal.
The Food Tents in every Bee Box Parties Collection are ideal additions to a perfect party spread. These not only allow you to showcase your dessert choices, but are also a great way to coney your party theme. Use fun, theme relevant names for your dishes; for example, your Bee Box Dino Roar party could feature T-Rex Treats, Stegosaurus Snacks or Jurassic Juice.
White or glass serving ware is incredibly versatile and can be styled for a variety of themes. Symmetry tends to appeal visually, so where possible use two of every item. Another way to add depth and visual appeal is by using variations in height. Taller items should be placed at the back and flatter trays towards the front. Examples of items that can be used to add height include pedestal stands, multi-tier serving platters, boxes, crates or bowls turned upside down, and decorative items like a framed Bee Box Parties welcome sign, or floral arrangements in apothecary jars.
Decorations that double as a backdrop give your dessert table depth and a frame. Your Bee Box or Luxe Box along with a few home staples have everything you need to set the scene. Ideally, push the serving table against a wall and decorate the wall behind it then cover it with a long white tablecloth, sheet or textured shower curtain. Add a little extra colour with a contrasting runner along the table top; rolls of wrapping paper are ideal for a bit of extra flair. Add layers to the backdrop by placing a banner or garland on the wall, or by hanging pom poms, paper lanterns or balloons above the dessert table.
